What's the best way to modify plugins?
      #2966526 - 08/24/04 06:58 PM

Long time reader, first time poster

I've got a stack of plugins running in my game and I want to change some of the details in them (such as object stats etc) without stuffing my save game.

Would creating my own plugin to modify stats in existing plugins be the best way to do this? Or would this cause problems?

Also, I get heaps of dialogue warnings when I load up plugins in the TES CS. Is it safe to just skip these?

Many thanks in advance.

I've found that the best way to alter a plugin is to make the changes to the plugin itself. I've had uneven results creating a plugin to modify another plugin. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it has just created new problems. If you really want to try it I'd say go ahead, but create a full save before you test your changes. That way, if your changes haven't worked you can start over again fresh. In any case, I can't guarrantee that you won't see doubling, missing doors, etc, if you're doing this in the middle of a game. MW is extremely unpredictable in this regard.

About your dialog warnings: if your first warning ends with the sentence, "You say you have a note from Ernil?" then just ignore it. These dialog errors were introduced by Bethesda itself with the Bloodmoon expansion and cannot be avoided.

See the thread linked from my signature for info on the saved game issues involved.

This thread discussed some of the issues involved in updating existing mods that are already being used in the game; that would probably be a good place to continue the subject.

See the pinned "Construction Set warnings while loading all 3 Master Files" post at the top of the Construction Set forum.
